As a raw ingredient, it boasts a rich, dark brown appearance. The African Black Soap is crafted from locally harvested plants, including palm, coconut, and shea butter, which are sun-dried and roasted, resulting in its deep brown (not black) color. Due to the incorporation of Pyrithione Zinc, a fine white powder, the finished bars take on a light purple hue. To aid exfoliation, ground apricot kernels are added, providing a subtle texture.

The ingredients list includes Water, Glycerin, Saponified Oils (from palm and coconut), Sodium Oleate, Pyrithione Zinc, Shea Butter, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Ground Apricot Kernel, Salt, Sodium Citrate, and Citric Acid. This formulation contains a maximum strength of 2% Pyrithione Zinc.
